first open tryout
When is it?
The first Open Tryout is February 21st @ 10:30am PST
Where is it?
Oakland Ice Center in Oakland, CA
What’s an Open Tryout?
An Open Tryout is part social event, part scrimmage, and part tryout. Think of it as a two-way evaluation: you’re seeing if Senior A hockey feels right by skating with prospective teammates, and we’re assessing who has the skill, competitiveness, and mindset to help build the team.
We’re not rushing a roster, we’re building a team the players are proud of and fans want to support. That starts with chemistry, both on and off the ice, so to support that each open skate will be paired with a social event at a local venue (think hockey watch party at a brewery).
What’s the format?
While Senior A hockey is typically played under full-contact, NHL-style rules, this skate will be a non-contact scrimmage.
Two teams of 15 skaters
Two referees
Random team selection
Penalties = Penalty Shot
Can I make the team?
Yes, you can make the team at any open tryout. Bubble players will be invited back additional open skate tryouts, and for final tryouts in August.
Can fans attend?
Yes! Fans are encouraged to come, and attendance is FREE. We will have merchandise for sale, the snack bar will be open, and fans are invited to the post-tryout social event (think a hockey watch party at a brewery).
