Open skates

What’s an Open Skate?

An Open Skate is part social event, part scrimmage, and part tryout. Think of it as a two-way evaluation: you’re seeing if Senior A hockey feels right by skating in front a crowd (200-300 people) with prospective teammates, and we’re assessing who has the skill, competitiveness, and mindset to help build the team.

We’re not rushing a roster, we’re building a team the players are proud of and fans want to support. That starts with chemistry, both on and off the ice, so to support that each open skate is paired with an after party with our beloved friends at Line 51 brewery.

What’s the format?

Senior A hockey is played under full-contact, NHL-style rules, therefore open skates will be full contact scrimmages.

  • Two teams of up to 15 skaters

  • Official referees

  • Penalties = Penalty Shot

Can I make the team at an open skate?

Yes, you can make the team at any open skate, and we will offer team spots after each skate. Bubble players will be invited for final tryouts in August.

Can fans attend?

Yes! Fans are encouraged to come, and attendance is FREE. The snack bar will be open, we will have merch on site, and fans are invited to the after party at Line 51.
